Answer:
Go to www.mytimetoquit.com - lots of good info!
stop buying smokes would probably be your first and most important step.
You can try anti-smoking patches. These work great, helped my friend quit. And let me tell you that he believed it was totally impossible for him to quit... But he did...

Have your family support you stop smoking. Also think about if you keep doing what your doing to your money, health, and life.
there is no best way its your way, try whatever works for you, i slowed down then slowed down even more, etc, till i had about two cigs a day then one, then none, i cheated and took a few hits here and there but eventually they became so strong and not fun. buy some multivitamins and drink water you might get sick from not smoking its called detox, i felt fatigued. or there are patches, gum, hypnosis, your doctor could even help.
My ex-wife had a nasty addiction to smoking and she used the nicotine gum to quit. Even so, it has been a constant battle for her ever since and that was years ago that she quit.

On the other hand, a friend of mine used hypnosis and never wanted a cigarette again thereafter. But hypnosis only works on select individuals.
there are many ways to quit. some doctors can prescribe pills to help you quit, there's the nicotine patch, nicotine gum, chewing regular gum, drinking water everytime you want one (the urge only really lasts a few seconds - they just coe frequently, but will lessen over time, plus you get the nicotine out of yoiur system), some people just go cold turkey - quit all at once, some people wean themselves off them (harder to do in my opinion), theres ear stapling and hypnotism ( this is what worked for me - smoke free for 9 years),and many communities have smoking cessation groups for free or a nominal fee.

I think the american lung or heart association has literature on quitting.

good luck and Keep trying if it doesnt work the first time. Just try and try - it will stick
my dad got hypnotized to stop smoking it worked he got it done it took like 10 minutes and cost like 25 dollars and we thought it was going to be a rip off but he hasn't touched a cigarette in 10 years not even any cravings either!
also you could try chewing gum or sucking on hard candies when you get a craving

~ good luck!
I quit about 5 yrs ago i used nicotine patches and a lot of willpower.but really you should be stopping for yourself not your family. if you really want to stop you will.
If you think that you cannot do it by yourself, without any help. You should go to your doctor, because there are many medications, like bupropion, and nicotine substitutes that can help you handle it easier. They are chosen taking in consideration many factors of each patient, like how much do they smoke, how many years, if they smoke as a way to relieve anxiety, etc.
Good choice to stop smoking and good luck
I am 44 and smoked since I was about 19. I finally quit about a week ago after being hospitalized with pnuemonia a few months ago. I have tried the gum, patch, and a few other things over the years with no luck. There is a fairly new product out called "Chantix". I took it for about six weeks before I had to stop due to complications. It did work and Ihave been smoke free for 5 days now. This includes a three day weekend...I am proud of myself! Ask your Dr if it will work for you, and good luck!
if you believe me, there is a cultivation book (Zhuan Falun), which after reading that particular chapter about quitting smoking, practitioners automatically stop craving for cigerettes. I know it might sound weird to you. Ok let me explain.. cultivation (of the heart's character and morality) to upgrade oneself is both solemn and meaningful. In Zhuan Falun, the master explains in detail, using simple scientific explanations, about the reason behind every occurance in life.
Because cultivation also involves purifying the bodies for sincere practitioners, every cultivator has stop various temptations and cravings - including smoking.
Its amazing cos as you read, you will discover the profound logic through the Master Li's explanation. Besides, it help you become better person and help you rid your various attachments. And everything is free.
I'm not sure if you can find Zhuan Falun in ure local bookshop, but i know you can download for free at
http://www.falundafa.org/eng/books.htm...

I sincerely hope you can check out.
I succeeded by fasting three days. Addiction left but the psycholigical addiction remained for a year, whenever I was frustrated.
Get an Almanac Calender....
Each day has signs of the zodiac (Pisces Libra etc.) Two of each most months. On the second day of Sagittarius quit. That's the way I did it %26 I smoked for 35 years.
Cold Turkey or CHANTIX!!! It's not easy.. I'll tell you that! But VERY VERY POSSIBLE!
You've really got to make the decision to quit, and then just do it - no trying, just do it and don't stop doing it. Focus on the reasons you are quitting, not on what you think you are missing.

But there's not much point in tossing your cigs, if you don't fix the underlying reason you smoke. So why do you smoke? Lonely, bored, fidgety, low confidence or self-esteem, caught up in peer pressure, an excuse to indulge in self-guilt and pity, or just an out-of-date habit you don't need now?

Once you've quit for 48-72 hours, the nicotine is out of your blood and the rest of your addiction is in your head. The good news is that there are heaps of things you can do to replace your habit - and solve your underlying problems. Healthy snacks and things to do with your hands instead of putting a cig in your mouth, exercise, skills, hobbies and new activities to fill in your old smoking time, etc. All these make you feel good about yourself and give you the feeling of control over your life and future.
